What do you do when you don’t have a portrait ready and get a press request?

Call me! Or at least that’s exactly what the owner and designer behind the luxury bow tie brand SONSON decided to do. When she got a last minute press request but didn’t have a recent portrait she needed a strong portrait fast. Luckily I had the day put aside for administrative work and was able to sneak her in the same day and get her photos retouched and ready for the next morning deadline.

SONSON is a luxury bow tie brand focused on providing dapper, handcrafted accessories. They Specialize in leather and beautiful fabric father-and-son bow ties. Their mission is to serve as a catalyst for conversations through fashion. SONSON creates truly unique bow ties and is based out of Oakland.

You should always have a strong and current portrait ready to go. As an artist, designer, entrepreneur or business owner it is important to have a good portrait. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to get published just because you don’t have a good portrait. Especially as a small business owner, one of the strongest aspects of your business is you. So show people who you are, show them your face and your personality.

“It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.” – Paul Caponigro

Has it been a while since you had a headshot taken? Or maybe you have never had a professional portrait made. In either case I can’t stress the importance of having a good portrait enough! In the world of social media, and online press it is becoming increasingly important to give people a chance to identify and connect with your humanity. A good portrait will help your customers do just that. Sometimes a portrait means a studio session in business attire. But sometimes having a good portrait also means going deeper. What is the space you need to be in to show your clients who you are? What type of lighting and mood best represents you? These are all things you can think about and I can help you with. So give me a shout if you think it might be time to update your headshot.

Lets show people the personality behind your brand! Schedule your portrait session through my calendar, or head over to my website to find out more.

  1. I’d love to know more of your thoughts on what makes a “good” portrait, and also what kinds are suitable for different applications.

    1. I think a good portrait is one that feels true to who you are. Of course for different applications the style of the image may vary. There are so many people who have no portrait at all. Or the last one they have is from years ago and no longer looks anything like them. Personally I always work with my clients to find out what their portrait will be used for and how they want to represent themselves.
